Obituary of Mary C. Corkland

Lake George: Mary C. Corkland, 90, of Birch Ave. passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at The Pines at Glens Falls. Born July 18, 1923 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Irving and Birdie (Bolio) Chambers. She was a lifelong resident of the area, graduating from Lake George High School in 1941. Upon her graduation she became employed by the Lake George School System as a secretary to the Principal. She was a dedicated employee to the school for 45 years before retiring as the Chief Account Clerk. Mary married James H. Corkland on October 20, 1945 in Lake George. She was active in the Lake George United Methodist Church for many years. Mary enjoyed cooking, travelling, vacationing in Maine, and sewing in her youth. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen Corkland, who passed away at the age of two. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 68 years, James Corkland of Lake George, and a daughter, Mary Beth Corkland and her husband, Jeff MacMakin of Putnam Station. Friends may call on Mary’s family from 1-3 pm, Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be conducted at 11:00 am, Monday at the funeral home, with Rev. Nancy Barrows, Pastor of The Warrensburg Free Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Lake George.
