Obituary of Grace B. Stone

Warrensburg: Grace B. Stone Steves, 88, formerly of Library Ave., passed away, Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the home of her son, Don, on Schroon River Road following a long illness. Born February 21, 1920 in Thurman, she was the daughter of the late George and Millicent (Combs) Baker. Grace began her education at the District #3, one room school house in Thurman, before graduating from the Warrensburg High School. She went on to graduate from Albany Business College and began a 41 year career as an Accountant Supervisor with the Warren County Dept. of Social Services before retiring in 1984. She was a longtime member and served as treasurer of the Warrensburg First United Methodist Church. Grace also served as past president and treasurer of the former Hackensack Rebekah Lodge of Warrensburg and was a member of the Thurman Senior Citizens. Her favorite pastimes included spending time with her family, knitting, crocheting and gardening. Grace is predeceased by her two husbands, Donald Stone Sr. and Albert Steves, her siblings, Milford Baker, James Baker, George Baker Jr., Ida Mae Goodnow, Lena Baker, Kenneth Baker, Dempsey Baker, and Florence Dingman; and grandson, Michael LaFond; her daughter in law, Sandy Stone. Survivors include her son, Donald B. Stone Jr. and his companion, Arline Ackley of Warrensburg, her daughter, Sandra LaFond and her husband, Roland of Warrensburg; brother, Sharkey Baker of Deland, FL; brother in law, Lloyd Dingman of Flora Park, FL; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside services will be conducted at a time to be announced this coming spring in the Warrensburg Cemetery. There are no calling hours scheduled.
