David Degen, 72, of Third Avenue, passed away peacefully, Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the Glens Falls Hospital following a brief illness surrounded by his loving family.
Born September 20, 1945 in Cohoes, he was the son of the late Everett and Margaret (Weaver) Degen.
Following his graduation from Cohoes High School in 1963, Dave enlisted in the United States Air Force for four years and shortly after, joined the Navy, proudly serving his country in the Seabees Construction Battalion in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1970.
He married Rozanne Isabelle on his birthday, September 20, 1969 in Oahu, Hawaii while on military leave.
He began working for Niagara Mohawk in 1970 and made his way through the ranks as a lineman and retiring as a foreman in 2001, after 31 years of faithful service.
Besides spending time with his family, Dave enjoyed a good round of golf with his many friends at Cronin’s and above all, joking around with his beloved grandchildren.
He was a long-time communicant of St. Cecilia’s RC Church, Past President of the Haskell Brothers VFW Post 4821 and a member of the Warrensburg American Legion, Post 446.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by two brothers, Jack and Everett Degen.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 wonderful years, Rozanne Degen of Warrensburg; his children, Andrew Degen of PA, and Daniel Degen and his wife, Heather of Webster; grandchildren, Chloe, Ava, and Kendall Degen of Webster; his siblings; Elizabeth Richmond, Dorothy Hughes, Helen Degen, Diana Adams, and Douglas Degen; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on Dave’s family from 4 to 7 pm, Monday, December 18, 2017 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Tuesday, at St. Cecilia’s RC Church, 3802 Main St., Warrensburg with Fr. Paul Cox, officiating.
Rite of Committal will follow in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Cecilia’s Church, 3802 Main St., Warrensburg, NY 12885 or to a charity of one’s choice.
