Obituary of Earl L. Allen

Bakers Mills: Earl L. Allen, 89, of Edwards Hill Rd., passed away peacefully, Saturday, December 6, 2014, at his home. Born June 3, 1925 in Sodom, he was the son of the late Bert and Cora (Hitchcock) Allen. Earl served his country in the United States Navy, aboard the U.S.S. Jenkins. He was a carpenter, electrician, and caretaker for many years, who prided himself in going above and beyond; Earl loved to build and help others. Earl was a member of the Sodom Community Church for 67 years, 55 of which, his wife was Pastor; they took great pride in maintaining the church. He also a member of the Penticostal Holiness Assoc. for many years, as well as the American Legion, and he was the last living charter member of the Bakers Mills-Sodom Fire Company. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and moved hunting parties over Eleventh Mountain for over 30 years. Earl also enjoyed spending his time making hay rakes with the equipment that he had purchased from his uncle, Delbert Allen. He was known for his superb maple syrup, and the “Hit N Miss” engine show, where people came from all around, to camp out, and to see his display. Besides his parents, Earl was predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years, Rev. Daisy Allen, and two sisters, Ona (Allen) Dunkley and Luella Allen. He is survived by his children, Kjerstia (Allen) Schilinski of Bakers Mills, and Fred Allen and his wife, Ruth, of Union Beach, NJ; grandchildren, Alonzo Conlon and his wife, Maureen, Fabiann Conlon and his companion; Keitan Millington and his wife, Saraha, Derek Millington, and his wife, Courtney, Heather (Allen) Semmens, Keisha Sprague and her companion; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Ian, Ava, Shasti, Dauphin, Kurt, Nate, Kora, Kraig, Lynden, Daphne, Aidan, Jonas, Izzy, Dezore, Khaleah, Yanden; a brother-in-law, Oliver Dalaba; three sisters-in-law, Pansy Allen, Ginny Dalaba, and Marilyn Haviland; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call on Earl’s family from 6 to 9 pm, Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at the Sodom Community Church, Sodom Cross Road, North Creek. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 am, Wednesday, at the church, with his nephew, Rev. Ronald Allen, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Bates Cemetery, Johnsburg. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may the form of donations in Earl’s memory to the Sodom Community Church, PO Box 41, Bakers Mills, NY 12811.
