Obituary of Floyd J. Planty

Warrensburg: Floyd J. Planty, 80, of Sanford Street, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness. Born May 16, 1933 in Parishville, he was the son of the late Myron and Eva (Dennis) Planty. Floyd began his working career at the Robert J. Sweet Lumber Company where he remained for nearly 30 years. He later began working as the handyman at Eichler Ford which is presently Warren Ford. Floyd also worked for his brother, Frank at Planty’s Salvage for most of his life. Floyd was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Besides spending time with his family, he enjoyed his favorite television shows, going on long drives, listening to country music, tinkering and detailing his cars, especially his Mustang, and attending local garage sales. Besides his parents, he is predeceased an infant son, Floyd Planty, and his siblings, Rita Bartlett, Mary Cullen, Marjorie Richards, Ella Hope, Frank Planty, Raymond Planty, and Donald Planty. He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Gloria Planty of Warrensburg; his daughters, April McBride and her companion, Aaron Brown of Hudson Falls, and Amanda Planty of Warrensburg; a granddaughter, Rhonda McBride of Warrensburg; sisters, Lucy DeGrush of Hudson, and Martha Cutler of Norwood. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Memorial service to celebrate his life will be conducted at 3 pm, Friday, April 18, 2014, at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. Friends are invited to call on Floyd’s family one hour prior to the service. Floyd’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and staff at the C.R. Wood Cancer Center, as well as the nurses on Tower 2 at Glens Falls Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Floyd during his illness. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to his wife, Gloria, to help assist with life’s many expenses.
