Please share a memory of Milda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
North River:
Milda D. Burns, 88, of 13th Lake Rd., passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday, August 11, 2014 at her home.
Born August 1, 1926 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late John Edward and Maud E. (O’Neil) Donohue.
She married James Burns on September 16, 1950 at St. James Catholic Church in North Creek; he passed away in 1985.
Milda was employed as a bookkeeper for many years at Najer’s Sawmill and Garnet Hill Lodge.
Her favorite pastimes included skiing, golf, gardening, backgammon, and studying Adirondack history and the Civil War. She gave many spirited talks about logging and Adirondack history, while in full costume; Matthew Brady and Jeanne Robert Foster were special interests of hers.
Milda was a member of the Johnsburg, John Thurman, and Chateaugay Historical Societies, the Adirondack Mountain Garden Club, Sleeping Giants Senior Citizens, and Merry Widows.
Besides her parents and late husband, Jim, she was predeceased by two sisters, Norma Higgins and Helen Donohue, and three brothers, John, Francis, and Raymond Donohue.
She is survived by her son, Peter Burns and his wife, Diana, of North River; a daughter, Ann Schumacher and her fiancé, John Heiss, of Paradox; four granddaughters, Cassandra, Emily, and Samantha Burns, and Kelsey Schumacher. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins, including her niece, Jean and her husband, the late Don Killian, and her nephew, John and his wife, Marge Donohue, who were a devoted and appreciated part of her family.
Milda will be remembered for her great humor and entertaining personality.
A special thank you is extended to the Adirondack Tri-County Day Care program, the Fort Hudson Nursing Home waiver program, and SAIL, the Southern Adirondack Independent Living Center. These agencies allowed her to live her last days in her own home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Milda’s memory to The Train Depot Museum in North Creek.
