Warrensburg:
Joan A. (Bergman) Noble, 88, of Echo Lake Road, peacefully passed into the arms of The Lord, Friday, September 8, 2017 at Glens Falls Hospital, following a short illness.
Born March 29, 1929 in Floral Park, Long Island, she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Harriet F. (McCoy) Bergman.
Joan attended public schools in Floral Park before earning her degree as an RN. She worked in the New York City area for several years before relocating to the north county, where she became a nursing instructor at Adirondack Community College. She was also a certified tester of nursing applicants for licensure for the NYS Boards. Joan was known as a strict, yet effective teacher, who claimed that she had taught for so long that Florence Nightingale very well may have been one of her students.
One of the charter members and officers of the Glens Falls Medical Mission, Joan travelled to Santa Rosa, Guatemala, twice a year for almost 40 years; although she didn’t speak Spanish, she assumed the role of health teacher on these missions. In later years, she served as a charter member of LaMancha, Inc., and travelled with that group, as well, to perform infrastructure improvements in the Hogar de lay Ninas (girl’s home) in Culepa, Guatemala.
In addition to her parents, Joan is predeceased by her husband, Stanley Edward Noble, who passed away on August 20, 1988, her brother, Charles E. Bergman, beloved sister, Marilyn P. Bergman, and step-daughter, Lee (Noble) Rafferty.
She is survived by two step-children, Scott Brent Noble of Hudson Falls, and Sally (Noble) Wallace and her husband, Richard, of Athol; four grandsons, Jamie Rafferty, Thomas Noble, Robert Noble, and Richie Wallace; great-grandchildren, Hayden Scott Noble, and Oliver and Olivia Wallace; two nieces, Lisa M. Lawrence of Fairfax, VA, and Therese A. “Tabby” Cochran of Riverside, IL; sister-in-law, Donna Bergman; son-in-law, Jim Rafferty; special friend, Gail Needham and Annette Minnick, and several extended family members and dear friends.
