Obituary of Nathalie M. Sharrow

Please share a memory of Nathalie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Glens Falls/Raquette Lake: Nathalie (Lapointe Martin) Sharrow, 74, passed quietly in the late evening hours Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Glens Falls Hospital following a long struggle with cancer. Nat, as she was commonly known, was born April 19, 1937 in Glens Falls to the late Basil K. and Ruth (Jackson) Lapointe. She graduated from Glens Falls High school in 1955. Nat married “Wick” Martin and moved to North Creek in 1960. There she and her family owned and operated “Basil and Wicks”, one of the most popular restaurant/taverns in the area; a mainstay for many people, both local and visitors, until it closed in 1991. In 1980, Nat was widowed. She married Ron Sharrow in 1983, the couple relocated to Raquette Lake 1991, where they opened the “South Bay Tavern”, which they operated into the new millennium. Nathalie had a great love for family, and for the people of the communities that were part of her life. She was most recently a member of the Inlet Community Church, and had strong ties with many of the members and clergy there, as well as the Opalecent Club in Newcomb, of which she was a member of until the last few years. Recently, she had also renewed her childhood interests in painting, oil on canvas as well as portraits, showing a definitive talent that we, her children, never knew was hidden in our mother. Both she and Ron have donated pieces of their artwork over the years to local groups and fund-raising events. Other than her parents and late husband, Harold “Wick” Fenwick Martin, Nathalie was predeceased by her daughter, Nikki Ann Martin. She is survived by her husband Ron Sharrow of Raquette Lake; sons, Brett Martin and wife Cindy of Brasie Corners, Thom Martin of Atlanta, GA, James Martin of North Creek; sister, Ruth (Lapointe) Mitchell and husband Don, of Minerva; stepchildren, Ron Sharrow of Glens Falls, Melissa Parrish of Saratoga, Melanie Lashway of Queensbury, Jim Sharrow and wife, Christy of Glens falls; nieces, Victoria Smith of Whitehall, Cheri “Fred” Smith of Brandon, VT, Heather Smith of Holly Springs, NC, and Christine Lafond of Minerva. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, a score or more of grand and great-grandchildren, and dozens of unofficially adopted children whose lives she touched over the years. The Inlet Community Church will hold a service commemorating Nat on Sunday, September 18, 2011. We would like to invite all to a gathering of family and friends, a time to share and remember, at the Tannery Pond Community Center in North Creek on Thursday, September 8, 2011, from 4 to 8 pm. Please feel free to bring pictures, memories and laughter for a life that was fully lived. Please visit www.alexanderfh.net for online guestbook and condolences.
