Obituary of Kenneth L. Secor

Wevertown: Kenneth L. Secor Jr., 80, of State Route 8, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, January 29, 2011 at his home following a courageous battle with a long illness. Born August 17, 1930 in Albany, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Alice (Morse) Secor. Ken spent his childhood years in Minerva and entered the US Army and served his country during the Korean War while stationed in Italy. Following his honorable discharge, Ken worked in the lumber industry before becoming an Operating Engineer with Local 106 in Albany, working on such projects as the Adirondack Northway, Gilboa Dam and Plattsburgh Air Base, Mt. Vanhovenberg Bobsled Facility and Empire Plaza in Albany. He retired in the early 1990’s and took up enjoying his grandkids, tinkering in his garage, visiting the Saratoga Casino, the Black Bear playing quick draw, Indianapolis Speedway, the Kentucky Derby and touring the countryside with his beloved wife of 52 years, Lois (Wells) Secor. Besides spending time with his family, Ken enjoyed playing golf and flying with his lifelong friend, Albert “Brother” Blanchard. Ken was a Free and Accepted Mason and beginning with a membership with the former Glendale Lodge in Pottersville that eventually merged with the Warrensburgh Lodge 425 F&AM. He was also an active member of the Shriners. Besides his parents, Ken is predeceased by two sisters, Leona Warrington, Elizabeth Campbell and his brother, Richard Secor. In addition to his wife, Lois, Ken leaves behind his two sons, Daniel Secor and his wife, Dawn of Albany, Scott Secor of Wevertown; his daughter, Tammy Mitchell of Burlington, KY, Amy Secor of Wevertown; four grandchildren, Daniel Secor Jr., Marcala, Alison and Amara Mitchell; his sisters, Patricia Tucker and her husband, Gordon of North Creek, Madeline Campbell of South Glens Falls, Constance Younes and her husband, Asa of Nineveh, Mary Baker of Ticonderoga, Evelyn Goodspeed and her husband, Donald of North Creek; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services originally scheduled for Wednesday have been postponed due to extreme weather. Funeral services and calling hours have been rescheduled to Thursday, 4 to 6 pm visitation with a 6 pm memorial service at the funeral home beginning with a Masonic service and concluding with family and friends sharing fond memories of time spent with Ken. His earthly remain will be interred in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery with full military honors in the spring.
