Obituary of Barbara M. Metzger

Thurman: Barbara M. Metzger, 82, of Sky High Road, went into the arms of her Lord, Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Adirondack Tri-Country Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Born February 1, 1932 in Quincy, MA, she was the daughter of the late William and Mabel (Pratt) Hall. Barbara graduated from Barrington College in Providence, RI. She met and married Charles Metzger in Fall River, MA. She received her Master’s degree from Plattsburgh State University. She taught first and second grades at Warrensburg Central as well as Star City Elementary, and Central Elementary in Portage, IN. As a Pastor’s wife, Barbara also taught Sunday School for many years. She will be remembered for her quick wit, delicious chocolate chip cookies and apple crisp. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years, Charles L. Metzger; her brothers, Bill, Dave and Jim Hall, all of Braintree, MA. She leaves behind three daughters, Cindy Metzger of Mechanicsburg, PA, Donna Herrmann and her husband, Rev. Robert of Thurman, and Cherie Gee and her husband, Larry of Granville; one son, Dave Metzger of Winamac, IN; her brother, Bob Hall of Braintree, MA; a sister-in-law, Clodine Hamilton of Mishawaka, IN; She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and foster grandchildren. At Barbara’s request, no calling hours are scheduled. A memorial service to celebrate her extraordinary life will be conducted at 11 am, Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the Thurman Baptist Church with her grandson, Pastor Nathan Herrmann, officiating. Burial will take place privately at the Thurman Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Barbara’s name to the Thurman Baptist Church.
