Obituary of Frederick Combs

Queensbury: Frederick “Timmy” Combs, 77, of Willowbrook Road, passed away peacefully on, Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the Glens Falls Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 28, 1931 in Warrensburg, he was the son of the late Walter and Marjorie (Frye) Combs. Timmy married Catherine Brown on September 1, 1956. He was a dedicated employee for International Paper for over 40 years, until his retirement in 1993. Timmy excelled in many activities. He played semi-pro baseball for several teams including the Glens Falls Independents as short stop and catcher from 1951 to 1959. He also enjoyed fast pitch softball. He was known as one of the top bowlers in the area, and even played in a televised tournament in 1962. Besides his parents, Timmy is predeceased by Catherine, his wife of 22 years, who passed away in 1978; his brothers; Earl, Gerald (Jake), Carl, and Donald Combs. He is survived by his daughter; Kim Sopko and her husband, David of Albany; his son Edmond J. Combs and his wife, Judy of Plattsburgh; brothers: Roger Combs and his wife, Barbara; Gene Combs and his wife, Donna, all of Warrensburg; six grandchildren: Jessica, Rebecca, and Daniel Sopko, Samantha, William, and Russell Combs; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call on Tim’s family from 5-8 pm, Thursday at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. Funeral services will be conducted 11 am, Friday at the funeral home with James A. Baker, Sr., officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine View Cemetery, Queensbury. The family would like to thank Dr. Bryne, Dr. Stoutenberg, Dr. Hoy, and the staff at the wound care and short care centers at the Glens Falls Hospital, Tower Two Nursing staff and a special thanks to Colleen Ackley, who was his nurse and friend throughout his illness and Dr. Laurie Gates, his primary Care Physician.
