Lake George: Robert Morris Moon, 84, of Quoddy Blvd., passed away peacefully Sunday, February 24th, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born January 21, 1924, he was the son of the late Morris and Ruth (Ball) Moon, of Lake George. Bob was a 1943 graduate of Lake George Central School, and a US Army veteran of WWII, having served in the D-Day invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge campaign in the Ardennes region of Belgium. He had a long and distinguished career in fire and public service. He was a Boy Scout Master for Troop 20 in Lake George; Noble Grand of I.O.O.F. lodge; District Deputy Grand Master I.O.O.F. lodge; Lake George Village police officer; Warren County Deputy Sheriff and dispatcher; New York State Park Ranger; Lieutenant for the Civil Defense Police where he was an instructor in unarmed defense; Chairman of the Communications Subcommittee for Tri-County EMS; Chairman of the Board of Ethics in the Town of Lake George; Secretary/Treasurer of Northeastern Fire Coordinators Association; Chief of the Lake George Fire Department; head mechanic and transportation supervisor at Lake George Central School; a member of NYS Pupil Transportation Association; Warren County Fire Communications officer; Warren County 1st Deputy Fire Coordinator; Warren County Arson Squad investigator; Warren County Fire Safety inspector; and served on the Board of Directors of the Lake George Historical Association. He retired from his public service career in 2006 at age 82. Bob was well known and respected by the community of Lake George and the entire region. He leaves behind an example with his commitment to community service and his desire to help people. He was predeceased by his wife of 36 years, Virginia Dorothy (Gratton) Moon. Bob is survived by his wife of 12 years, Katherine Mary Moon of Lake George; brother, Harold Moon and his wife, Gladys of Warrensburg; two sons: Alan Moon and his wife, Ursula of Lake George; Gary Moon of Lake George; daughter Brenda Sweet of Queensbury; 3 stepsons: Mike Bell and his wife, Laura of East Corinth, ME; Jeff Bell and his wife, Carin of Montague, CA; Steven Bell of Sacramento, CA; along with his special sister-in-law, Margie Turner and her husband, Wayne of Rockledge, FL. Bob is also survived by 5 grandsons; Daniel Weik and his wife, Stacy, Robert Moon and his wife Kristi; Kevin Moon and his wife, Jennifer; Scott Koopmann; Nick Koopmann and his wife, Annette; 7 great-grandchildren: Bella Weik;Trevor Moon; Olivia and Zoey Moon; Lilyanne, Bradley, and Cole Koopmann; along with several nieces and nephews and close friends, Scott and Lori Combs of Warrensburg. Friends may call on Bob’s family from 1-3 and 6-8 pm Thursday at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
