Obituary of Herbert W. Muller

WARRENSBURG: Herbert W. Muller, Jr., 74, of Hudson Street, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Albany Medical Center. Born in Amityville, N.Y. on August 8, 1936, he was the son of Herbert W. Muller, Sr. and Christine B. Geise. A resident of Warrensburg the past 11 years, he formerly lived in Chelsea for many years. Herb was employed as Supervisor of Transportation for Beacon School District. He was also a part time dispatcher for the Dutchess County Bureau of Fire. He also had a lawn mowing business while a resident here. He also drove a school bus in Warrensburg. Herb was a 59 year active member of Chelsea Fire Co., of which he was chief for 27 years. After moving to Warrensburg, he joined Warrensburg Fire Co. nine years ago, and served on the Board for Warrensburg Emergency Medical Service. Herb attended Warrensburg Methodist Church and also served in the U.S. Army Reserves. On August 26, 1979 in Chelsea, he married Carolyn J. Babcock, who survives at home. Also surviving are his sister, Linda Muller and her partner, Jim Kolfrat of South Carolina. Also surviving are his daughters, Tamela Muller of Chelsea, Joyce Muller of LaGrange, and their mother Jeanette Muller,Karen R. Powles and her husband Bill of New Windsor, Sons, Robert J. VanTassel and his wife Georgeann of Chelsea, William J. VanTassel of Port Richey, Fla., and Michael P. Slinskey of Wappingers Falls. Also surviving are grandchildren Kathryn, William, Trisha, Meghan, William, Timothy, Brittany and Amber, great grandchildren, Destiny, Autumn, R.J., and Christopher. Funeral services were held on Friday in Wappinger Falls. Locally, friends may call on Herb’s family from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. Members of the Warrensburg Vol. Fire Co. will conduct a memorial service at 7 pm Thursday followed by a Methodist service to celebrate his life at 7:30 pm, during the visitation at the funeral home with Rev. Stephen Andrews, Pastor of the Warrensburg United Methodist Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Warrensburg Volunteer Fire Company or the Warrensburg EMS.
