Obituary of Susie F. Toney

Warrensburg: Susie F. Toney, 97, of Main Street, passed away peacefully, Friday morning, February 9, 2007 at her home in the town that she loved. Born July 7, 1909 in Lansing, she was the daughter of Tony and Jennie (Solomon) Isaac. Susie married James Toney on July 7, 1931. She assisted her husband in the daily operations of the family store, Jacobs and Toney Meat Market in Warrensburg for many years. She was a member of the Church of the Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Warrensburg and St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in South Glens Falls. She was a former member of the Queen Village Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. Susie loved spending time with her family, cooking and visiting with family and friends while rocking on her front porch. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her husband, James passed away on October 10, 1967 after 36 years of marriage. She is also predeceased by her daughter, Lorraine Hiffa on March 20, 1998; two brothers, Isaac and Jack Isaac and sister, Rosa Mack have all died before her. Survivors include her son, Jack J. Toney and his wife, Laddie of Warrensburg; two brothers, Michael Isaac and his wife, Sophia of Glens Falls, George Isaac and his wife, Nina of Lancing; four grandchildren, Catherine Sabottke and her husband, Craig of Baton Rouge, LA, Frederick Hiffa and his wife, Vicky of Loudonville, Jill S. Toney of Warrensburg and Jennifer Nadler and her husband, Howard of Queensbury; seven great grandchildren, Craig and Carl Sabottke, Nicholas, Jonathan and Elizabeth Hiffa, Zoee and Cooper James Nadler; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on Susie’s family from 3-6 pm Sunday at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. Funeral services will be conducted 11 am Monday in the Church of the Holy Cross, 3764 Main St., Warrensburg with Rev. John Cornelius, Rector officiating. Rite of Committal will follow in St. George’s Cemetery, South Glens Falls. Pallbearers will be Tony Cancemi, Nick and Bob Jacobs, Terry and Flint Scherer, Nick Issac, Jeffrey Toney and Nick Hiffa. Susie’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to her many caregivers for the kindness and compassion over the last 7 years. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Richards Library, 36 Elm St., Warrensburg or to Warrensburg Health Center of the Hudson Headwaters Health Network, 3767 Main St., Warrensburg, NY 12885.
