Obituary of James A. Dever

Stony Creek: James A. (Jim) Dever, 58, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2009, at his home on Warrensburg Road. Born on May 31, 1950 in Quincy, IL, he was the son of the late Dr. Francis X. and Dorothy (Brooks) Dever. Jim was raised in Glens Falls and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy. He then attended Adirondack Community College and SUNY Plattsburgh, where he graduated with his Bachelors Degree is Sociology. Jim was trained in the culinary arts at Stouffer’s in Detroit, and eventually became a chef with Vallee’s restaurants in Massachusetts and New York. While working at the Claddagh Restaurant in Boston, his New England “Chowda” recipe was a three time Boston Harborfest Clam Chowder award winner that was used by the U.S. Navy in Hawaii. His greatest professional joy and challenge was to prepare meals for hundreds of guests nightly at the Arehart family owned 1000 Acres Ranch and Resort in Stony Creek. Jim is survived by his daughters: Leigh Ann Terilli and her husband, Jeff of Beverly, MA; and Meghan of Arizona; his brother, Frank Dever and his wife, Roberta of Randolph, MA; nieces: Sarah Dever of Quincy, MA and Katie Dever of Randolph, MA. Friends may call on Jim’s family from 12-2 pm, Friday, January 23, 2009 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
