Obituary of Harold G. Nelson

Lake George: Harold G. Nelson, 93, of Mohican Street, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 20, 2009 a the Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness. Born January 19, 1916 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Gustave and Jennie (Bachman) Nelson. Harold married Marie Waress on July 11, 1939 in St. Cecilia’s RC Church in Cleveland. During WW II, he worked for Steel Improvement and Forge Co., a company that helped pioneer the development of the jet engine, for which Harold was very proud to have been associated with. He was active with the Boy Scouts as a Scout Master for many years while raising his two sons. He and his wife both retired from Highland View Hospital in Warrensville, Ohio in 1977 and moved to Chestertown. The couple are communicates of St. Cecilia’s RC Church in Warrensburg and Sacred Heart RC Church in Lake George. His favorite pastimes included woodworking, building furniture and model ships. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Marie E. Nelson of Lake George; his two sons, Richard Nelson and his wife, Jill of Thurman, Thomas Nelson and his wife, Colleen of Union, CT; three grandchildren, Clifton Nelson and his wife, Louise of Ft. Ann, F. Glen Nelson of New York, Arielle Nelson of Union, CT; one great granddaughter, Amber Nelson of Ft. Ann. At Harold’s request there will be no calling hour scheduled. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 am Monday, February 23, at Sacred Heart RC Church, 51 Mohican Street, Lake George, with Fr. Thomas Berardi, Pastor and Fr. Nellis Tremblay presiding. Rite of Committal will be in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery, Warrensburg in the spring. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Building Fund of the Sacred Heart RC Church, 51 Mohican Street, Lake George, NY 12845.
