Chestertown:
MARTHA CLARK CRING, 34 YEAR EMPLOYEE OF IBM, DIES AT 67
Martha Cring passed away quietly at her home in Chestertown, New York Sunday, May 28, 2017 surrounded by family and friends following a long struggle with cancer. She was 67.
Martha Nichols Clark was born in Ashtabula, Ohio on July 29, 1949 to Norinne and Lyle Clark of Cherry Valley, Ohio. She graduated from Pymatuning Valley High School in Andover, attended Ohio State University and spent a summer studying at Oxford University in England.
Joining IBM Martha worked at several locations including Fishkill, New York, Denver and North Carolina. She worked in IBM’s Global Services Division for many years. During her 34 years of employment IBM awarded her many awards for her outstanding service.
Martha is survived by her beloved husband Don Cring, also of Chestertown. Their full and loving life together included time with a large extended family.
In addition to Don survivors include: stepdaughters Colleen Johnson of Bronxville (husband Craig); Bonnie Cring of Kingston, stepsons Keegan Cring (wife Colinda) of St. Bernard, Louisiana; Sarah Cring of Houston, Texas; Kyle Cring (wife Emily); 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Survivors from a previous marriage include stepdaughters Wendy Deimling (husband Don); Kim Cook and 3 grandchildren. Stepdaughter Kristie Kuran predeceased her.
Surviving siblings include Nancy Ginsburg Stern of Palo Alto, California, Marlin Clark, of Williamsfield, Ohio and R.M. Clark. A brother, Charley Clark, died in 1956.
Martha had a great zest and enthusiasm for life. In addition to her family and work activities she loved her dogs. She also loved people. Some have said she "never met a stranger” as she followed the tendency of the family she grew up in to talk to everyone. She was full of ideas. In Colorado she worked with a victim’s assistance program. In North Carolina she published an advertising magazine. After she retired she worked at a post office. In her last few weeks she was still thinking about things she wanted to accomplish.
She will be greatly missed.
