Warrensburg: Beloved mother, Betty Jane Nash, passed away Saturday morning, April 12, 2008 at the Intensive Care Center at the Glens Falls Hospital. Born December 22, 1933 in Deluth, MN, she was the daughter of the late James and Margaret Einfeldt. In 1954, Betty married Lewis Emerson Nash, resulting from an affection that grew between them as Betty picked grapes for Lewis at his vineyard in Chautauqua County in western New York. Lewis and Betty moved to Virginia for a short time, then to Montpelier, Idaho. Lewis found work for the forestry service constructing park buildings, while Betty cared for their home. They came to have a small farm onto which they moved a home. Lewis rebuilt the home and they lived a happy life there with horses, ducks, dogs, and much hard work. In 1959, a son, James was born and they continued to show much love in their comfortable setting. It was in Montpelier that Ruby Palmer first introduced Betty to the teachings of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, a faith that proved to be of great importance to her throughout the rest of her 74 years. She deeply believed that god was to be foremost in her life and devotedly displayed courage, wisdom, and love; not only to her family but also included many others. Teaching them the same faith that gave her strength and hope for the future, and nurturing those who accepted her faith by her witness, with encouragement and physical support despite difficult conditions. In 1970, Betty moved to Amsterdam, selected as a central location between loving relatives. They later purchased land in Broadalbin, their building once again, a small farm and a comfortable home. However, three persons were not enough for Betty’s love. She obtained foster parent and legal guardian status for William Hotaling, whom she came to love very much. Also her love extended to her son’s close friend John Astwood, who likewise was treated as a son. In 1980, the farm was sold and they moved to a summer home in Warrensburg and a winter home in Cape Coral, FL. After Lewis’ death in 1991, Betty relocated to Smithville, TN to be near friends, and then settled year round in Warrensburg to work in the ministry, on quick built Kingdom Halls, and care for her grandchildren. Betty was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Lewis; and her infant brother, James. Survivors include her son, James; daughter in law, Judi; foster son, William Hotaling; two granddaughters: Janelle and Jillian; son-like friend, John Astwood; also including two stepsons: Milton Nash of FL and Richard Nash of ME and their families; along with many dear friends. A memorial talk will be given at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 6:30 pm on Saturday, April 19. Donations in Betty’s memory may be made to: Kingdom Hall, c/o Don Page, PO Box 25, Stony Creek, NY 12878. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses on Four West and in the Intensive Care Unit for their professional care during her last two weeks.
