Bolton Landing: William C. Baker, 94, of Alderbrook Road, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at his home. He went to join his beloved wife of 66 years, Rita (Pasco) Baker, who preceded him on May 27, 2003. Born August 20, 1914 in Thurman, he was the son of Cyrus and Hazel Baker. Bill was the last of eight siblings. He was a lifelong resident of the area. He ands his wife raised their family of eight children on the mountain on Alderbrook. Back in the day, when it took a real man to scrape out a living and teaching his kids not to forget where they came from. Bill loved the mountain and will always be there. He was known as the old woodman, supplying the town and campsites with wood. He was a logger and a great father passing down the art of logging to his sons. His greatest accomplishments included his teaching his kids to work hard and never be ashamed of who they are. He lived a very peaceful life on the mountain, where he enjoyed gardening and making anything grow. Bill leaves behind his children, Thomas Baker of Florida, Marlene Burch of Warrensburg, Rex Baker and Bill Baker both of Brant Lake, Kenny Baker of Bolton Landing, Kerry Baker of Thurman, Linda Baker of Bolton Landing, and Pam Baker of Warrensburg; close family friend, Jim Dickinson and his two sons; 30 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on Bill’s family from 3-5 pm Sunday at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate his life will follow the visitation at 5 pm Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. William Lucia, Pastor of the Christ Community Church in Thurman officiating. The family will gather for a small reception at the farmhouse on Alderbrook Rd. at the conclusion of the service. Spring burial will take place in the Warrensburg Cemetery.
