John F. Walker, 50, passed away, Monday, Sept 15, 2008 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
John was born July 16, 1958 in Canarsie, Brooklyn, where he grew up and graduated from Canarsie High School. He attended Brooklyn College, graduated with his Bachelors Degree and then attended the State University of New York in Oneonta where he received his Masters Degree in Geology and Groundwater Hydrology. He moved to Doylestown, PA in 1984 and started his career with Intex Environmental. In 1988 he was promoted to Vice President of Intex and in 1990 became the 303rd Certified Groundwater Professional by the Association of Groundwater Scientists and Engineers. In 1994 he became the 693rd licensed Professional Geologist in the state of Pennsylvania. John became a partner at Intex in the year 2000.
John had a love of his family, history movies and the great outdoors. He began mountain and rock climbing in the early 70's where he tackled the high-peaks of the New York Adirondacks. As a Mountaineer he moved onto the Canadian Rockies and the Alaskan Range with a particular liking for ice glacier climbing. John met his soul-mate Michelle of Quebec, Canada, in August 2002, at 7,000 ft in the Canadian Rockies. John was a member of the American and the Canadian Alpine Club and had published writings in their newsletters.
John is survived by his loving mother, Marie, his loving partner Michelle, loving sisters and brothers, Patricia (special brother-in-law Tom), Suzanne, Maryann (Tim), Robert (Tonya), 13 Nieces and nephews, Robert (Liz), Thomas, Brianna, Eric, Jonathan, Bobbi, Emily, Gary, Rachel, Maria, Cheyanne, John and Jade.
Services will be held Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9pm at The Higgins Funeral Home, New City.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered Thursday 10:15 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, West Nyack.
Graveside services will be conducted 10am, Saturday, September 20th at St. James Cemetery, North Creek.
Memorials may be donated to the American Cancer Society or Stand Up to Cancer.
