Obituary of John J. Flynn

Lake George: John J. Flynn, 60, of Harrington Hill Rd., passed away Sunday night, June 7, 2009 at his home following a long illness. Born December 13, 1948 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Freebern) Flynn. Following his high school graduation, John entered the US Air Force and served his Country during the Vietnam War. He was a corrections officer for more than 20 years, retiring from Mt. McGregor Correctional Facility in Wilton. John was well known as “The Santa” for many years at the Magic Forest and at the Aviation and Wilton Malls. Favorite pastimes included spending time with his grandchildren, his pets, and playing golf. Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Theresa (Whalen) Flynn of Lake George; his children, Brian and Kevan both of Glens Falls, Kelly Pennington and her husband, David of Ohio, Colleen Criss and her husband, David of Ohio; stepson, Michael Connelly and his wife, Jolene of Lake George, stepdaughter, Jennifer Grafals and her husband, Jody of Glens Falls; his sister, Carol Stern of North Carolina; grandchildren, Mason, Kyle, Owen, Madeline, Alexia, Karianne, Arawnn, Emily and David; one niece, Megan Stern. Friends may call on John’s family from 5-7 pm Thursday evening at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A memorial service to celebrate his life will follow the visitation at 7 pm Thursday at the funeral home with Fr. Paul Cox officiating. Interment with full military honors will take place at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville on Friday at 11 am.
