Obituary of Robert E. Goodnow

Robert E. Goodnow, Sr., 84, of Don Potter Road, passed away peacefully, Saturday, January 24, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 12, 1930 in Thurman, he was the son of the late Alexander and Elizabeth (Hadlock) Goodnow.
Bob started his working career with Myron Cameron at the Cameron Saw Mill at the age of 16. He eventually began employment with NIBCO in South Glens Falls where he remained for 20 years. He also worked for ENCON for a short time. Most recently, Bob worked for the RJ Sweet Lumber Company, presently known as Cersosimo Lumber Company Inc. for the past 14 years.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Ida Goodnow, a granddaughter, Janell Grants, and great-granddaughter, Kristine Raymond, his sister Mae Rozell and her husband, Harold and and two son-in-laws, Harry Burch and Joseph Mosher.
Left to cherish his memory are five children, Virginia Mosher, Tena Brown and her husband, Edward, Teresa Grants and her husband, Jeffery, and Robert Goodnow, Jr., of Athol, and Peggy Burch and her companion, John, of Warrensburg; and his sister, Laura Cameron of Thurman. He also leaves behind one grandson, seven granddaughters, several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At Bob’s request there will be no calling hours scheduled.
A memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life will be conducted at 2 pm, Sunday, February 1, 2015, at the Kenyontown Methodist Church, 304 Valley Road, Thurman with his son-in-law, Jeff Grants, officiating.
A reception will follow the service at the church until 5 pm.
Burial will take place in the spring in Reynolds Cemetery, Thurman at a time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of a random act of kindness to a family in need.
Bob’s family would like to express a special thank you to his longtime friends Sonny (Norm) Russell and Jack Sweet for always being there for him, as well as all who knew him and looked out for him. His family would also like to thank the staff at the Luck-E-Star Café, Bob’s favorite bed and breakfast.
