Obituary of John E. Durkin

Warrensburg: John E. “Jack” Durkin, 69, of Newton Street, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at his home following a courageous 11 year battle with renal failure. Born April 7, 1942 in North Creek, he was the son of the late Frank and Inez (Robinson) Durkin. Following his graduation from Johnsburg Central School in 1962, Jack began taking land surveying courses. Throughout the years, he worked for various local companies, including the Cunningham Ski Shop in North Creek and the latest being Kilby Brothers Construction until his retirement in 2001. Jack met his beloved Sydna “Birdie” McLean and eventually wed in October of 1966. The couple resided in Warrensburg and enjoyed 44 years together. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his two brothers, Roger and Charles Durkin; and his sister, Katherine Durkin. He is survived by his wife, Sydna Durkin of Warrensburg; his three sons: John Durkin of South Glens Falls; Derek Durkin and his wife, Courtney of Warrensburg; and Devin Durkin of Warrensburg; his grandchildren: Jacob and Megan Durkin, Charles Davis and Tillman Durkin; his sisters: Marilyn Seelye of AR; Sharon Cleveland of North Creek; and Sheila Secor of Schroon Lake; along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. Friends may call on Jack’s family from 6 to 7 pm, Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A memorial service to celebrate his life will follow the visitation at 7 pm at the funeral home with Sister Linda Hogan, Parish Life Director of St. Cecilia’s Church, officiating. Jack’s family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Joseph Mihindu and his staff for the wonderful and compassionate care they gave to Jack throughout his illness.
