North River: Barbara R. Douglas, 94, formerly of 13th Lake Road, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Elderwood at North Creek following a brief illness. Born May 13, 1924 in North River, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Gladys (Oliver) Reed. Barb married Hewlett Cornwell on August 12, 1942 and together enjoyed 15 years together until his untimely passing in 1957. She later married Thomas R. Douglas on December 7, 1962 in Port Washington. Barb was the true definition of an Adirondack woman. Following her retirement from NYS DEC, she and Tom built their dream home “up on the hill” and started Highland B&B, regularly taking in skiers who became repeat customers throughout the years. Many memories and laughs were shared with family and friends. Besides her parents and late husband’s, Hewlett and Tom, she is predeceased by two daughters, Deborah Stephenson and Katherine Nofi; a sister, Virginia O’Connor; grandson, Edward Nofi, a granddaughter, Barbara Korth, and nephew, Robert Johnson. She is survived by her three daughters, Ann O’Connor and her husband, Joseph of Poughquag, Janet Duell and her husband, Randy of Chestertown, and Kimberly Klippel and her husband, Charles of Elkhart, IN; as well as three grandsons, seven granddaughters, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call on Barb’s family from 12 to 2 pm, Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A memorial service to celebrate her life will immediately follow the visitation at 2 pm, at the funeral home. Burial will be conducted in North River Cemetery at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the North Country Hardship Fund, PO Box 101, North River, NY 12856.
