Obituary of Doris I. Savage

Doris Irene Savage, 67, of Goodman Rd., died on Saturday morning, April 15, 2006 at her home following a long illness. Born on June 11, 1938 in Crown Point where she lived until she was 14 when she moved to Minerva. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Elsie (DeLong) Gonyo. Doris worked as a waitress for many years ,Was a family cordinator for Head Start, and retired from the Warren Co. Residential Hall in Warrensburg where she was a secretary for several years. She was Friend,Mother,Grandmother,Great Grandmother,Sister, Niece and cousin.She leaves many that loved her behind. Doris made most of the childrens clothing,was a Girl Scout,Boy Scout,and 4H leader. She was a person that never sat still and could do anything she tried.She continued to learn new thing throughout her livetime..She helped build her first house, raised beef cows,showed horses,bred dogs,spent hours sitting with ill or dying loved ones, knew how to do almost all crafts and loved a good joke.She most recently was working on the family genelogy.- She was a former member of the Johnsburg Fish and Game Club. Doris enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting and her beautiful flower gardens. Doris's biggest enjoyments were blue grass music and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.She shared her home with her 2 poodles and 2 bird. Besides her parents Doris was predeceased by a husband Harold I. Savage who died on March 27, 1995, three sisters Yvonne Gonyo, Linda Bennett and Sheila Bush. She is survived by two daughters, Starla Utley and her companion Rob Kohrman of Minerva and Anna Davis and her husband Paul of Olmstedville; one son, Dale Millington and his wife Fawn of Johnsburg; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three step-sons, Wayne, Thomas and Gary Savage; a step-daughter, Darlene Watsaw and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marvin Gonyo and his wife Joyce and Steven Gonyo and his wife Nita both of Minerva,five sisters Joan Walker and her husband John of Minerva,NY,Gloria Bush of Henderson,Navada,Raydene and her husband Anthony Cyrus Labatore of Ticonderoga,NY,Donna Baker of Lake Lazerne,NY and Vanessa and her husband Larry Dunkley of Glens Falls,NY and several nieces, nephews,aunts, and cousins. Calling hours will be held at the Alexander Funeral Home, Inc, 4479 State Rt. 28, North River, on Tuesday, April 18, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 19 at 11am with the Rev. Ron Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Bates Cemetery, Johnsburg.
