Obituary of Harry R. Parker

Warrensburg: Harry R. Parker, 69, of Schroon River Road, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2008, at his home following a long illness. Born August 8, 1939 in Newcomb, he was the son of the late Clifton and Florence (Turner) Parker. Harry graduated from Newcomb High School in 1957. He married Margery Vernum on April 21, 1962 at the Warrensburg First United Methodist Church. From 1963 to 1965 he served in the U.S. Army where he spent one tour in Vietnam. Harry was a painter by trade, painting water towers in New Jersey in his early years. He also worked for Loren and Michael Eddy and most recently was a self employed painter and wallpaper hanger, a career that spanned over 30 years. He was a past commander and life member of the Haskell Brothers Post 4821 VFW in Warrensburg. Harry was an avid NASCAR fan and also enjoyed crossword puzzles, puzzle books, and handheld games. Survivors besides his wife of 46 years, Margery M. Parker, include his two sons: William Parker and his fiancée, Diana Howe of Chestertown; Christopher Parker and his fiancée, Carrie Lloyd of Warrensburg; four grandchildren: Matthew, Jeremy, Aubree, and Sydney; and one on the way, along with several cousins. Friends may call on Harry’s family from 6 to 8 pm, Monday evening at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A service to celebrate Harry’s life will begin at 7:30 pm during the visitation with members of the VFW and followed by Pastor Dawn Robbins of the Warrensburg First United Methodist Church officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather at the VFW hall for a reception following the service. Burial will take place at 1 pm, Tuesday, in Newcomb Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the C.R. Wood Cancer Center, Glens Falls Hospital, 102 Park Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801.
