Obituary of Cameron G. Tessier

Glens Falls: Cameron G. Tessier passed away peacefully, Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Glens Falls Hospital, following a brief illness. Mrs. Tessier, born March 11, 1920 in New York City, was the tenth and youngest child of the late Ennis Peter and Mary V. (Coghlan) Geraghty. Mrs. Tessier’s family moved to Chestertown, New York in 1922. Educated in the public schools of New York City, Chestertown, and Pottersville, Mrs. Tessier then earned her bachelor of science degree cum laude from St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY, where she majored in mathematics. She was elected to Pi Mu Epsilon, the national mathematics honor society. She also earned her M.Ed. from St. Lawrence. While an undergraduate she was elected president of Dean Eaton Hall and was captain of the women’s tennis and field hockey teams. Mrs. Tessier taught mathematics for 36 years at high schools throughout the area, in Pottersville, Lake Placid, Warrensburg, Hudson Falls, and South Glens Falls. She also tutored for many years in her home. After her retirement from South Glens Falls High School in 1986 she volunteered as a math tutor at the Glens Falls Youth Center. Mrs. Tessier enjoyed nothing more than watching her students succeed and helping them do so. Mrs. Tessier was active and involved with her community. She often attended school board meetings, Common Council meetings, and even Board of Supervisors meetings to keep informed on important issues and to share her opinions. She continued her love of athletics as a skier, swimmer, and tennis player. Well into her 90s she rode her yellow bicycle briskly through her neighborhood. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tessier was predeceased by her husband, Homer A. Tessier, whom she married in 1946, her granddaughter, Sarah E. Herd, and her son-in-law John E. Herd. She was also predeceased by her beloved siblings, Edith Geraghty, Hilah Geraghty Gibb, Ennis Geraghty, Leila Geraghty O’Connell, Peter Geraghty, Richard Geraghty, June Geraghty, Randolph Geraghty, and Elihu Geraghty. Survivors include her daughters, Rachelle, Margaret Tessier Griffin (Robert), and Natalie Tessier Herd; a grandson, Elihu Herd; and fourteen nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Mrs. Tessier will be held at 11 am, Saturday, February 10, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, NY. Interment and Rite of Committal will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family In St. Cecilia’s Cemetery, Warrensburg, NY.
