Obituary of Gertrude M. Ackley

Warrensburg:
Gertrude Mary Ackley, 90, of Countryside Adult Home and formerly of Alden Ave., went home to be with the Lord, Friday, July 29, 2016 at the Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by the love of her family at her time of departure.
Born June 17, 1926 in Niagara Falls, she was the daughter of the late John and Gertrude (Winn) Harvey.
Gertrude married Louis E. Ackley Sr. on June 22, 1946 and the couple started their family in Warrensburg before relocating to Niagara Falls for 20 years before moving back to Warrensburg in 1970.
She loved raising her family and driving school bus.
Locally, she worked at the former shirt factory as a seamstress and retired as a beloved school bus driver from the Warrensburg Central School after many years.
Besides spending time with her family, taking care of her grandchildren, Gertrude enjoyed Bingo, garage sales, needlepoint, and sewing many baby blankets, aprons and bags for her family, friends and the craft fair at Countryside.
She is predeceased by her first husband, Robert Schrader and their son, Vernon Schrader; her husband of 54 years, Louis Ackley Sr.; and theirs sons, Teddy Ackley, and Louis Ackley Jr.; and her brothers, John and Leonard Harvey.
She is survived by her children, Danny Ackley Sr. of Warrensburg, Randy Ackley of Glens Falls, Cheryl Tennant of Warrensburg, Jeffrey Ackley and his wife, Sheila of Thurman, and Dean Ackley of Warrensburg; her daughter in laws, Wanda Ackley-Olden and Anne Chapman both of Warrensburg and Colleen Ackley of Glens Falls; her siblings, Al Harvey and his wife, Fran, Floyd Harvey and his wife, Betty, Audrey Dunham and her husband, Rich, Judy Wizner all of Pekin; a special sister in law, Marjorie Peters, brother in laws, George Sprague and John Johnson; 16 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren with four on the way.
Friends may call on Gertrude’s family from 12 to 2 pm, Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Alexander Funeral Home, Inc., 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will immediately follow the visitation at 2 pm at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Warrensburg Cemetery.
Pall Bearers will be her grandchildren, Teddy Ackley, Jr., Danny Ackley, Jr., Genny Ackley, Anthony Ackley, Justin Ackley, Jimmy Blydenburgh, and Michael Tennant.
