Obituary of Eugene R. Hammond

Whitehall: Eugene R. Hammond, 64, of Elizabeth Street, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at his home following a long illness. Born on January 16, 1946 in Ticonderoga, he was the son of the late Leland and Dorothy (Howe) Hammond. Over the years, Eugene worked various occupations including maintenance at the Georgian Resort in Lake George and former Great Eastern Lumber Mill in North Creek. In his early years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and mechanical repair and restoration of muscle cars. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his daughter, Tammy Sharon Hammond; and his son, Andrew G. Hammond; nephew, Joseph Hammond, and brothers, Gary and Brion Hammond. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Hazel (Bruno) Hammond of Schroon Lake; his sons: Mark J. Hammond and his wife, Meghan Katherine of Adirondack and Ryan P. Hammond of Glens Falls; five grandchildren, Dusteana, Patrick, Nathane, Hannah and Ethan; his siblings, David Hammond of Pottersville, Philip Hammond of Igerna, Lucille Werner of Glens Falls, Mike Hammond of Pottersville, Dale Hammond of Brant Lake, and Bruce Hammond of Olmstedville; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on Eugene’s family from 7-9 pm Friday evening at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be conducted 2 pm Saturday at the Grace Bible Fellowship Church, North Gore Rd., Olmstedville with Pastor Chad Haneman officiating. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Eugene's memory to the American Cancer Society, 959 Rt. 9, Mount Royal Plaza, Queensbury, NY 12804.
