Larry R. Maxam, 64, of Hudson Street, passed away peacefully, Thursday, August 29, 2013 at his home following a long illness with his loving companion by his side.
Born November 27, 1948 in Warrensburg, he was the son of the late Lester and Julia (Wood) Maxam.
Following his graduation from Warrensburg Central School, Larry enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly fought for his country, serving two tours in Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Gallantry Cross. Larry also spent time traveling to Thailand and Okinawa before his honorable discharge in 1971.
He began his working years as a painter and also performed building maintenance throughout the area. He was later employed as a corrections officer at Great Meadow’s Correctional Facility until his retirement in 2006; following 25 years of dedicated service.
Larry enjoyed his retirement hunting and fishing at his camp with family and friends, riding his motorcycle, and poker night with the guys. He also enjoyed spending time with the love of his life, Yvonne Vernum as well as his many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Larry is predeceased by his siblings: George “Tinker” Maxam, Robert Maxam, and Jean Laguer.
He is survived by his beloved companion, Yvonne Vernum of Warrensburg; his siblings: Richard Maxam and his wife, Martha of Corinth, Gerald Maxam of Tacoma, WA, Margaret Arnold of Warrensburg, and Dorothy Olden and her husband, Charles of Warrensburg.
Larry would have liked to express his appreciation for Yvonne and her children, whom he considered his own, for giving him happiness, comfort and peace during his final years.
At Larry’s request, there are no calling hours scheduled.
Services will be conducted privately at the convenience of his family.
