Obituary of Herman E. Hutchins

Indian Lake: Herman E. Hutchins, 84, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the Mercy Living Center in Tupper Lake. Born July 4, 1930 in Indian Lake, he was the son of the late Horace Sr. and Mary J. (King) Hutchins. He married Vaneta Mitchell on November 19, 1960; she passed away on December 11, 2001. Herman served his country during the Korean Conflict, where he was a Morse Code Operator in the Army Signal Corps. Upon his honorable discharge in 1953, he went to work as a self-employed building contractor until 1989, before becoming a Maintenance Foreman for Syracuse University at Minnowbrook Conference Center in Blue Mountain Lake; he retired in 1999. Herman was also employed by Chimney Mountain Cottages. In addition to his parents and his wife of 41 years, Herman is predeceased by his brothers, Horace Hutchins Jr., Lester Hutchins, and Sherald Hutchins, and his sisters, Helen, Edna, Thressa and Myrtle. He is survived by his children, Craig Hutchins of Indian Lake, Karen Hutchins of Lake Placid, and Corey Hutchins and his wife, Michelle, also of Indian Lake; two grandsons, Bryce and Garrett both of Indian Lake; a sister, June Rightmeyer of Poughkeepsie. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins. At Herman’s request there will be no calling hours scheduled. A private graveside service will take place at the convenience of the family in Cedar River Cemetery, Indian Lake.
