Obituary of Alta M. Pratt

Warrensburg: Alta Mae Pratt, 88, formerly of Schroon River Road, passed away peacefully, Friday, November 19, 2010 at the Glens Falls Hospital. Born March 9, 1922 in Brant Lake, she was the daughter of the late Irwin and Ada (Kingsley) Clute. Alta married George L. Pratt on December 25, 1940 and the couple resided in the Warrensburg area all their married lives. Alta was a 60 year member of the Warrensburg First Baptist Church and was the church treasurer for many years. She also taught Sunday School and worked with the AWANA program. She raised her family and went on to work for many years at the Warrensburg Laundromat. Besides spending time with her family, her favorite pastimes included needlework, word puzzles and was an avid NY Yankee fan. Besides her parents and beloved husband of 58 years, George who passed away on January 15, 1998, she is also predeceased by her sister, Eleanor Johnson and her brother, Harley Clute. She is survived by her daughters, Valerie Smith and her husband, Grant of Warrensburg; Debbie Peters of Warrensburg; her grandsons: Douglas Smith of Warrensburg and Daniel Smith and his wife, Jill of South Glens Falls; her granddaughters: Deanne and Deidre Peters of Warrensburg; four great granddaughters, April Lyons, Heather Kirk and her husband, Ben, Taylor Smith and Alexandra Smith; three great-great grandsons, Benjamin, Braden and Braxton Kirk; along with several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Alta’s family from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday, November 23 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be conducted 11 am Wednesday at the funeral home with James A. Baker, officiating. Burial will follow in the Brant Lake Cemetery. Alta’s family extends a heartfelt thank you for the care and compassion from the staff and residents at Countryside Adult Home in Warrensburg. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the First Baptist Church, 3850 Main St., Warrensburg, NY 12885.
