Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
North Creek: Dorothy J. “Dottie” Villeneuve, 82, of Peaceful Valley Rd., passed away peacefully, Monday, March 15, 2010 at the Glens Falls Hospital with her loving family at her side. Born October 15, 1927 in Blountsville, AL, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Mattie (Cochran) Batemon. Dottie met and married Richard V. Villeneuve on February 1, 1945 in Blytheville, AR. At the time, Dick was stationed at the local Air Force Base and Dottie worked at the Base PX. The couple settled in the Adirondacks and raised their family in Dick’s hometown of North Creek. During their 41 years of marriage, they enjoyed camping and fishing with their children and many friends. They both loved gardening, Dick with his vegetables and Dottie with her flowers. Following Dick’s passing on January 10, 1986, Dottie continued to be active working in her flower gardens, even in the last months of her life she had been planning her spring garden. She also enjoyed picnicking and taking day trips, playing cards weekly with “the girls.” Through letters and frequent visits, she kept in close contact with her family in the south and with friends she traveled to Nova Scotia, where she spent many enjoyable summers. During the winter months, she enjoyed bird watching, reading, knitting, and sharing her famous pecan pies for the holidays. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Olmstedville. Besides her parents and husband, she is also predeceased by her brother, Ottis Batemon, and her sister, Sarah Wise. Survivors include her son, Richard V. Villeneuve, Jr. and his wife, Margaret of North Creek, her daughter, Victoria J. Smith and her husband, Glen of North River; three grandchildren, Danny Phillips and his wife, Tammy, Scott Phillips and his wife, Emma, Jennifer Villeneuve and her fiancé, Luke Dague, one great grandson, Richard C. Phillips and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on Dottie’s family from 5-8 pm Friday, March 19 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Saturday, March 20 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Olmstedville with the Rev. Richard Sturtz, Pastor officiating. Rite of committal will take place in the Union Cemetery, North Creek later this spring. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Johnsburg EMS, North Creek, NY 12853.
