Please share a memory of Louis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Chestertown:
Louis Kosloske, 76, went to our Lord on July 9, 2016 at Glens Falls Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Lou grew up in Syracuse, NY with his father Edward and his sister, Reata. Lou went to Cathedral Catholic School until his junior year when he switched to Smith Tech to take up welding. After he graduated he went into the Coast Guard and was on a tug boat in NY harbor. He then he went to work at General Electric in Schenectady. He worked as a welder then after training and college became the welding instructor.
Lou then became the welding instructor for 30 years at the F. Donald Meyers Educational Center. Coming from the trades, he felt an obligation to pass his knowledge on to the next generation. His trade background also brought a strong commitment to the Union movement. He shared that commitment with the Saratoga Warren Teacher's Association serving for a decade as Union president. His leadership as a negotiator resulted in significant gains in salaries and working conditions for both the teachers and the support staff. His accomplishments will never be forgotten.
Lou loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, boating and kayaking. He loved traveling across the country experiencing all the different mountain ranges. He cherished his family always going above and beyond.
Lou is pre-deceased by his father Edward Kosloske and his sister Reata Luhr.
He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 23 years, Donna; his son Brian Kosloske and daughter Karen Fattal, his step-son Adam (Marah Gilbert) Hall of Chestertown, Josh (Sarah) Hall of Warrensburg and Jeremy (Jen) Bertsche of Thurman; his sister's children: Tom (Cindy) Luhr, John (Patty) Luhr, Mark (Beth) Luhr, Robert (Toni) Luhr, Andy (Mary) Luhr and Anne Lurh all of Syracuse; grandchildren, Alexander Hall of Bolton, Destiny Hall and Jake Hall of Warrensburg, and Julia Nardin of South Glens Falls.
At Lou’s request, there are no calling hours scheduled.
There will be a celebration of his life at the Waterhouse Restaurant in Lake Luzerne on Sunday, July 17, 2016 from 2 to 4. Please come, tell stories, and remember what a charismatic, funny, wonderful man he was.
His family would like to give a special thanks to the BOCES family. Lou had a TBI 3 years ago, we never felt alone. They were there for us, giving love, support, visits and laughter and always checking up letting him know how loved he was. I’d also like to thank my three sons, Adam. Josh and Jeremy, who all moved in with us, alternating for months on end , taking turns to ensure Lou was always cared for when I was at work and I'd like to thank his nephews and niece for all coming to give him a very special day at their camp and for how very much they cared for him. His family would also like to thank Dr. Rugge and his staff at Chester Hudson Headwaters Health Network for the outstanding care and compassion shown to Lou during his illness.
