Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Wevertown: Thomas J. Savage, 69, of Harrington Road, passed away peacefully, Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Glens Falls Hospital following a brief illness. Born April 12, 1949 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Harold and Dorothy (Straight) Savage. Following his graduation from Johnsburg Central School in 1967, he attended Alfred State University until he enlisted in the Unites States Marine Corps in 1969. Tom proudly served his country in Vietnam until his honorable discharge in 1971. During his time overseas, he was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for Meritorious Service for performing his duties in an exemplary and highly competent manner. Once stateside, Tom earned his Associates Degree at ACC and went on to further his education at Syracuse University, graduating with a Master’s Degree in Environmental Conservation. For several years, Tom worked for NYSDEC, overseeing the proper use of our wooded areas by hikers, sportsmen, and lumbering operations. He was also a crucial part in the development of many trails throughout the Adirondacks that many still enjoy today. Tom began working at Gore Mountain Ski Center and retired as Lift Supervisor after 35 faithful years. Even after his retirement, he would still work part time at the mountain as no one could run the lift quite like Tom. He enjoyed his little trips to North Creek to visit his friends and will be missed by many. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and expected nothing in return. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by a brother, Gary Savage. He is survived by his brother, Wayne Savage and his wife, Chris of Cocoa, FL and sister, Darlene Watsaw and her husband, James of Wevertown/Crestview, FL; as well as an aunt, nieces, nephews, and cousins. At Tom’s request, there are no calling hours or funeral services scheduled. Tom’s earthly remains will be laid to rest in Bates Cemetery privately at the convenience of his family.
