Obituary of Norma Jane Swinton

North Creek: Norma “Jane” Swinton, 88, of Main Street, passed away peacefully, Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Adirondack Tri-County Health and Rehabilitation Facility in North Creek surrounded by her loving family. Born February 1, 1924 in North Creek, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Addie (Roblee) Freebern. Jane was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from North Creek High School. Following her graduation, she worked for New York Telephone for several years. She met and married Rollin L. Swinton on September 16, 1951. Jane was an active member of her church. Besides spending time with her family, she enjoyed crocheting, listening to music, was an accomplished pianist, and an avid reader. In addition to her parents, her six brothers, Henry, Carson, Hugh, Jay, Gene and Hartsle Freebern, and three sisters, Loretta Freebern, Louise Roblee, and Mary Cornwall have all predeceased her. Jane leaves behind her beloved husband of 61 years, Rollin L. Swinton of North Creek; her children, Barry Swinton of North Creek and Jill Swinton of Pine Plains; two sisters, Agnes Villeneuve, Anne Porter and her husband, Patrick of North Creek; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on Jane’s family from 11 am to 1 pm, Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate her life will follow the visitation at 1 pm at the funeral home with the Rev. Ronald Allen, Pastor of the Sodom Community Church and Rev. Wallace Cromwell, Pastor of the North Creek Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow the service in the North River Cemetery.
