Frederick R. DeHoney Obituary

Frederick R. DeHoney Obituary

QUEENSBURY:  Frederick R. DeHoney, 79, of Queensbury, NY passed away at his home on July 21, 2026 with his two sons by his side.

Fred was born on September 23, 1946 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Nesbert R. and E. Thea (Briggs) DeHoney.  He and his family moved to Queensbury, NY in 1952.  Fred graduated from Queensbury High School in 1964.

Fred continued his education at Clarkson University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. While attending Clarkson, Fred met the love of his life, Marilynn, in an unforgettable way. He delivered a written apology for a missed date on behalf of his roommate, and the moment she walked into the dormitory lobby, he knew she was the one. Marilynn soon agreed but didn’t marry until 1967.

The couple began their married life in Glens Falls, where Fred worked for the New York State Department of Transportation while Marilynn pursued her teaching degree in Albany. They later moved to Parishville, where Marilynn taught junior and senior high English while Fred completed his engineering degree at Clarkson, all while continuing his work with the Department of Transportation.

They eventually returned to Glens Falls, where Marilynn enjoyed a long and successful teaching career at Bolton Central School teaching 7, 8 & 11th grade (having almost total success at getting every student to pass their Regents Exam) and as a yearbook adviser. Fred continued advancing his engineering career, receiving his Professional License to become a Bridge Inspector, which he spent the last 18 years of his career doing before retiring.

Together, Fred and Marilynn built a life centered on their love for one another and devotion to their children. Following retirement, they fulfilled a lifelong dream of taking an Alaska cruise. Marilynn also enjoyed embroidery and designing beautiful tote bags, while the two treasured the time they spent together with family.

Besides his parents, Fred is predeceased by his beloved wife Marilynn and a still born brother Daniel.

Left to cherish Fred’s memory are his 3 siblings Sally (Bill) Crain, Barry (Lesley) DeHoney, Beth DeHoney as well as his two sons, Derek DeHoney and Dan (Sue) DeHoney and grandchildren Alex DeHoney, Sara Santillo, Chris Santillo and Tom (Jess) Santillo and their two daughters.

Memorial contributions may be sent to: Regional Food Bank, 965 Albany-Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12110.

Per Fred’s wishes, burial will be private and at the convenience of his children.
