Please share a memory of Sharkey to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
WARRENSBURG: Sharkey A. Baker, 93 years old of Warrensburg, NY, passed away peacefully at Elderwood of North Creek on April 6, 2025.
Sharkey was born on November 15, 1931, in Thurman, NY, to the late George Baker and Millicent Combs. He grew up in Thurman and Warrensburg before joining the United States Air Force, where he was honorably discharged. Upon his return, Sharkey worked alongside his brothers in the woods, logging. Together, they founded a sawmill, initially called Baker, Baker, and Baker, which later became Thurman Lumber Company when his son joined the family business.
In his younger years, Sharkey was an avid hunter, but as time went on, he developed a passion for playing horseshoes and frequently visited OTB, where he kept detailed statistics on every horse and jockey. A true dog lover, Sharkey’s favorite companion in his later years was Dozer, who would sit with him daily—something he wouldn’t do for anyone else.
Besides his parents, Sharkey is predeceased by a daughter Tamara Conklin and all of his siblings.
Sharkey’s memory will be cherished by his son, Craig (Diedre) Baker, and daughter, Wendi (Eugene) Baird; grandchildren Michael Williams, Courtney (Ed) Byrnes, Amanda Baker, Kyle (Tommy) Donohue, Joshua (Michelle) Baird, Justin (Victoria) Baird, Jaired (Ginnette) Conklin, and Garrett Conklin and his girlfriend Carrie; great-grandchildren Mila Williams, Kyla and Mason Byrnes, Rexford Rounds, Marlee Brainard, and Noelle Baum, Olivia and Autumn Donohue, Jacob Conklin, Samara Conklin and Sharkey Conklin; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and his beloved four-legged companions—Dozer (his favorite), Willow, and River.
At Sharkey’s request, no services will be held.
