Errico “Ed” M. Monforte, 78, of State Route 9, passed away peacefully, Friday, March 2, 2012 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer - surrounded by his loving family.
Born December 29, 1933, in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Michael and Rose (Caputo) Monforte. He was an entrepreneur from his childhood, starting his own business operating a clam stand, at the mere age of 12.
Later, Ed proudly served his country during the Korean War by enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. Following his honorable discharge in 1956, he began his career in food service. Ed learned the art of baking under the direction of his grandfather, which led to him starting his own bakery in Long Island. Ed was also a volunteer with the Suffolk County Auxiliary Police Department.
He married Constance Morin on September 9, 1973, and the couple enjoyed 39 years together. After he and Connie moved to Warrensburg in 1976, Ed opened Spruce Mountain Bakery, which he operated for over 35 years. He was well known for his authentic Italian breads and pastries.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his daughter, Lydia Monforte; and siblings: Nicholas Monforte and Carmela Monforte, and Pierre.
