North Creek and Oxford, NC:
K Douglas Bennett, 80, of Oxford, NC passed away peacefully at his home in Oxford on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 with his loving wife by his side.
He was born July 31, 1932, son of the late Kenneth and Ruth (Hills) Bennett in North Creek, NY where he lived the majority of his life.
K graduated from Johnsburg Central School and went on to attend SUNY Canton prior to serving with the Navy during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned home to North Creek to work for A & B Oil Company, the family business, where he remained until he sold the business in 1987. He then worked in home construction until his retirement in 1998.
Throughout his life K was an active member of the community. He was a life member of the North Creek American Legion Post 629, a past member of the North Creek Ambulance and Fire Company, the Rotary Club, J.C.S. Board of Education and co-chairperson of the annual White Water Derby. K was very involved in the North Creek United Methodist Church, where he served as layperson, choir member, and board member for most of his life. He especially enjoyed his years as a troop leader and volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America. K treasured spending time with his family at his camp in Moose Pond, flying his Cessna aircraft at Bennett airstrip and woodworking.
K was survived by his wife and best friend of 55 years, Betty (Parker) Bennett; a sister, Phyllis Allen of Chico, CA; a son, Richard Bennett and his wife Darlene of North Creek, NY; 3 daughters: Kristine Bennett-Barnes and her husband Bill of Jay, NY, Deborah Bennett and her partner John Plunkett of Jerusalem, VT, and Lori Bennett of Oxford, NC; five grandchildren: Michael, Rachael, Kyle, Andrew, and Jesse; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made in K’s name to the North Creek United Methodist Church or Johnsburg Emergency Squad.
