Obituary of Susan E. Disbrow

Please share a memory of Susan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hague: Susan E. Disbrow, 86, of Split Rock Road, formerly of Copake, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Born August 4, 1925 in Wappinger Falls, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Craft) Knight. On March 16, 1945 she married her high school sweetheart, Winston Disbrow in Laredo, TX. Our mother’s high school graduation yearbook read: Susan E. Knight- “She walks in light.” What a beautiful quote, she did “walk in light” her entire life. She was truly a beautiful woman inside and out, and we were blessed in so many ways to have her as our mother. Her love of family was foremost in her life, although she had many talents; she worked along side our dad, “Pinky”, handling the bookkeeping during his milk testing years, then also with the John Deere Farm machinery business. In her later years, she worked tirelessly by his side managing Camp Waubeeka, a 150 acre campground in Copake. Sue loved the campground and that it became the “family gathering place”. The couple operated the campground for 25 years before retiring to Hague in 2002. Besides her parents, Susan is predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Winston “Pinky” Disbrow who passed away Nov. 20, 2004, and her brother, Bill Knight and his wife, Therese. She is survived by her four daughters: Suzanne Savoy of Dover; Linda Baker and her husband, John of Hague, and Diane Martino and her husband, Gary of Hague; and Gail Baird and her husband, Ernie of Copake; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, who all adored her. At Susan’s request there will be no calling hours scheduled. A memorial service to celebrate her beautiful life will be conducted at 2 pm, Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the Copake United Methodist Church, Church St., Copake, NY 12516. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to her devoted caregivers, Annie and Pam, who affectionately knew Susan to be their angel. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Susan’s memory to the High Peaks Hospice, 12 Tom Phelps Rd, Mineville, NY 12956 or the Hague Rescue Squad, Hague, NY 12836.
