Obituary of Joseph R. Nemec

Warrensburg:
Joseph R. Nemec, Sr., 61, of Truesdale Hill Road, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Glens Falls Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in New York City on November 13, 1951, he was the son of the late Richard and Mary (Minden) Nemec.
Joe began his schooling at the Monroe Street School and H. Frank Carey grammar schools, until his family moved to Warrensburg in 1963. He was at graduate of the Warrensburg High School, class of 1969. Following his graduation, he and his twin brother, George attended the Cybernetics Institute in Albany and also attended the Concord Commercial College in New Hampshire where he received his Associates Degree in computer programming.
Joe met his wife and best friend of 40 years, Gigi Holsapple in the pediatric unit of Glens Falls Hospital, where she worked as his nurse.
Joe owned and managed Nemec’s Feed and Grain in Saratoga Springs for 25 years. Prior to expanding the business to Saratoga, Joe and Gigi partnered with Joe’s parents, growing the family business from Nemec’s Snowmobiles into Nemec’s Bait and Tackle with his twin brother, George, Nemec’s Sport Shop.
Besides spending time with his family, Joe enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and traveling the world. Over the years, he enjoyed attending many NASCAR races and playing pinochle with his friends. He was also a member of the Warrensburg Lion’s Club.
Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his brother, Robert Nemec, and twin, George Nemec.
Joe is survived by his wife, Gigi; his children, Joseph Nemec, Jr. of Saratoga; Stephanie Nemec Cooper of Saratoga; Carrie Nemec and her partner, Kate Oakley of VA; and Crystal Nemec and her partner, Brian Cons of FL; a sister, Dorothy Nemec of Ballston Spa; sister-in-law, Nancy Nemec of Warrensburg; his grandchildren: Alie, Melinda, and Rose Marie Nemec; He also leaves behind several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and his beloved four-legged friend, Muttley.
Friends may call on Joe’s family from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, Monday, February 25, 2013 at Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be conducted 11 am, Tuesday at the funeral home with Sister Linda Hogan, Parish Life Director of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Joe’s name to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society.
