Obituary of Philip Jason Brown

Please share a memory of Philip to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bolton Landing: Philip Jason Brown, 101, of Federal Hill Road, left his earthly home to join his wife, Mary in Heaven, Monday evening, Jan. 7, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born, the son of George A. Brown, Jr. and Amy Bennett Brown on July 3, 1911, and not expected to survive what still remains the hottest day on record. He survived the 1918 flu epidemic which claimed his brother, sister and niece. Being a sole provider, fishing, trapping and gardening became his way of life. In the 1920’s he was a construction worker for the Sagamore Golf Course; working there for the next twenty years. In the 1940's he was employed for the Imperial Mill for Napalm production for WWII allies. After the war he helped to build the Bolton water plant and worked on the steel bridge(B. Murry Bridge-exit 24) over the Schroon River. He invested his money in an endeavor to build and operate a large poultry farm. During this time he was recognized by the American Agriculture Assoc. as a young promising entrepreneur. In two years he had to give up his business due to histoplasmois, a serious lung condition caused by poultry dust. Philip was employed for the Meyer’s estate of Bolton Landing and the Hoffman estate on Lake George. As the sole caretaker for the Hoffman estate he was presented the prestigious Lake George Beautification Award. He supported the local community by serving on a committee for the Boy Scouts. He was one of the founding members of the Bolton Conservation Club. Into his eighties, Philip would be seen tilling his vegetable garden, cutting hay with his Farmall Cub tractor, working in his large flower gardens and splitting wood for the family winter heat. He was recognized as a skilled stone mason and woodworker- his house reflects his talent. Philip married the love of his life Mary Ella French on December 14, 1941. They spent sixty-one admirable years together until Mary passed on May 5, 2004. He was predeceased by 3 sisters and 2 brothers, a daughter in-law Linda (McFarland) Brown and more recently, a son-in-law, Robert J. Labrum. He is survived by his children, Sandra Labrum, Donald F. Brown, Harold (Sherylee) Brown, Kathryn B. (John) Miller. Eleven grandchildren, Roberta Labrum, Philip (Charity) Labrum, Alex (Pam) Labrum, Joseph (Jamie) Brown, Jason ( Miranda) Brown, Kirsten Taufer, Krystal (James) Collins, Christiana ( Joshua) Maxam, Jonathan (Jodie) Brown, Aimee ( Randy) Cartier, John J. Miller, Kristof A. Miller. Twenty-one great-grandchildren, Lacy, Sara, Zackary, Dakota, Philip, Jacob, Christopher, Jared, Brandon, Lindon, Calvin, Ava, Edward, Josh, Robert, Caleb, Collins, Joshua, Matthew, Randi, Brogan. Seven great-great-grandchildren and one due in March. The family recognizes with sincere gratitude, the eleven years of loving care provided by Philip and Mary’s son Donald that his parents were able to enjoy their final remaining years in their home with dignity and pride. Philip was deeply spiritual and would always be thanking his Lord. Remaining humble and praiseworthy for God he gave thanks for every sunrise by exclaiming “Hooray for today. Thank you Lord”, and put every effort into that day to please his Savior. We as his family have lost an irreplaceable piece of our very heart and soul. He would expect us to continue to call upon the Lord for “ all our sins and griefs to bear”. The Shepard of our family has gone Home. Friends may call from 2-3pm on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013 to share stories of Philip’s extraordinary life with his family at the Solid Rock Assembly of God Church, County Rd. 11, Bolton Landing, NY. A memorial service will begin at 3pm. Light refreshments will follow in fellowship hall. Please visit www.alexanderfh.net for online guest book and condolences.
