Obituary of Joyce O'Connor Woznica

Peachtree City, GA: Joyce O’Connor Woznica, 88, passed away in her residence at Ashley Glen Assisted Living, Peachtree City GA on Tuesday September 25, 2012 in the presence of her devoted caregivers and surrounded by the love of her family. Joyce was born October 3, 1923 in Warrensburg, NY, the daughter of the late Sara Bowyer O’Connor and John Henry O’Connor. After graduating from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in 1943, Joyce lived at a girl’s club in New York City where she landed her first job at the Museum of Modern Art. In 1951 Joyce married Stephen Woznica and raised four daughters in Norwalk, CT. In her retirement years, Joyce moved to Atlanta where she enjoyed visits from her daughters and five grandsons. Joyce believed that all retired people should continue learning, especially about past history and the wisdom of their forefathers. Joyce had a love for reading and consumed the New York Times, Atlantic Magazine and The New Yorker. She enjoyed writing children’s books and poetry and contributed articles to the Warrensburgh Historical Society Quarterly. Joyce was passionate about gardening and was active in the Girl Scouts along with her daughters. Joyce is preceded in death by her daughter, Gail Woznica of Grand Junction, CO. Joyce is survived by sisters Anne Hallock of Gilboa, NY, Phyllis Gaudia of New York, NY, Sally Kubin and her husband John of Benson, VT and her brother John O’Connor and wife Linda of Sun Valley, ID. Joyce is survived by three loving daughters and five grandsons: Susan Somerson and her husband Steve of Media PA, Nancy Boccella of Vernon, CT and her two sons Jarrod and Daniel Boccella of Atlanta, GA and Ellen Passero and her husband Ken of Norwalk, CT and their three sons Andy, Jake and Billy Passero. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 10th at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg, NY. Burial will follow in the Chester Rural Cemetery located on Route 9 in Chestertown, NY. Memorial contributions in Joyce’s honor may be made to the Warrensburg Historical Society, P.O.
