I had the pleasure of working with Mike for about 30 years in various programs at DEC, but mostly the Spill Response program.
MIke was comitted to the success of the Spill Program from its onset. I worked in the Region 8 Avon DEC Office for 37+ years and I knew I could always depend on Mike for his support from the birth of the radio system statewide to any type of equipment that we needed including vehicles.
We talked often prior to my retirement 2 years ago about each other's health issues. I never heard Mike ever complain about what he had been dealt health wise.
Mike was a good friend of mine and he always provided me with a reminder to enjoy life.
My sincere condolences to Mike's family- May God Bless

Even though we can't be there physically, we are there in spirit. Uncle Mike helped me draw closer to the Lord and was extremely patient and understanding when I faced obsticles. It puts my soul at ease to know all the pain is gone and his spirit dwells forever in the house of the LORD!!!! I love you all!

I was sad to read about your loss. I knew Michael when we were both attending ACC. He was in a Fratunaty and I was a Sigma Delta Iota member. We had many great times together. He was a great person to have known during that time of my life. He had a passion for children and the environment. He loved to shoot animals except he would shoot with his camera not a gun. My wish for you and your family is to remember his passions and his willing to help anyone who needed help.
Fellow ACC alum, if you read this please keep Michael and his family in your prayers, as you remember all the good times that he helped to create with each and every one of you. We all have our favorite memory, so pray for he and his wonderful family, for they helped him become the man he was just as we all had a tidbit of time with our friend Michael George Johnson. Our friend is at Peace.

I was so saddened of the passing of Mike. We worked together back in the 80's in the Division of Water, Bureau of Spill Response. He was a wonderful person - always so happy as well as very enjoyable to work and talk with.

I worked with Mike over the years at DEC in the Spill Response Program, and felt it a priviledge to know such a fine gentleman. His quiet Christian ethics helped him (and us) get through tough times in the agency, and he would always go beyond just helping his fellow employees and firends. I miss Mike, as he was part of the "old guard" that helped establish the Oil Spill Repsonse Program. This group that can be proud of the fact they created program that helps and protects the public. He is in God's hands now, and his life is a shining example of what one can do following Christ's teachings.

Please accept my sincere condolences. I worked with Mike under the same DEC Division for the last 20+ Years.
My first three years with the DEC were spent at the Warrensburg sub-office so I met with Mike on a somewhat regular basis.
One such meeting took place at a truck stop diner along I-87, exit 12 I think. At that particular meeting Mike admitted, with a little smirk and twinkle in his eye, of his peculiar vice where he would sneak just a little pinch of coffee with his mug of cream.
For the last 17 or 18 years I've been in a more remote location and the occassions where I would see Mike in visits to the Albany headquaters were separated by years instead of months.
But I will always remember Mike as one of the pillars upon which the spill program was built.
Mike was a rare combination of honor, wisdom, and mirth.
May he rest in peace.

Mike was a good friend and a valued co-worker. Mike hired me at the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation in 1989, and we have worked together a very long time.
Mike's commitment to the mission of the Emergency Spill Response team in New York was absolute, and he was a key person keeping our program running smoothly. I have enjoyed his friendship and counsel on many occasions, and I will miss him.
God bless you, Jo Marie. I wish you and all of your great kids peace in this very sad time.
