Please share a memory of Harold to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Warrensburg:
Harold L. “Gabby” Hayes, 74, of Marion Ave., passed away peacefully Sunday, February 24, 2013 at his home, following complications due to Parkinson’s disease.
Born June 29, 1938 in Warrensburg, he was the son of the late Carson and Clara (Towne) Hayes.
Harold spent his younger years as a logger, and being employed by Green Mansions, before later retiring from the NYS DOT after 25 years of dedication to his job.
He was a very talented artist, carpenter, and car enthusiast who loved spending time with his family and friends. Above all, the other love of his life was his 1949 Ford Custom Deluxe that he took great pride in, having won many awards at several area car shows.
Some men leave their mark on the world by the way they live and the differences they mark in the lives they touch, Gabby did just that with his gentle nature and kind heart, he never spoke a harsh word of anyone.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Carson Jr., and Gerold Hayes, a sister, Wanda LaVergne, and his daughter, Robin Vernum.
Harold is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Florence Hayes of Warrensburg; his children, Tammy Flexon and her husband, John of Warrensburg, Harold Hayes of Warrensburg, and Richie Hayes of Warrensburg; brothers, Wayne Hayes and his wife, Jean of New Market, NH, and Gary Hayes of Chestertown; and his grandchildren, Jessica, Megan, Tanya, Katelyn, Jamie, Amanda, Nicholas, Eden, and Sarah. He also leaves behind 9 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Friends may call on Gabby’s family from 2 to 4 pm, Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will follow the visitation at 4 pm, Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Stephen Andrews, Pastor of the Warrensburg United Methodist Church, officiating.
