Jean O. Gralewski, 86, formerly of King Street, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at the Stanton Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre in Queensbury.
Born November 20, 1925 in Warrensburg, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Orpha (Wilsey) Anselmo.
Jean was a graduate of Warrensburg Central School, class of 1944. She then attended SUNY Cobleskill, graduating in 1947, with an associate’s degree in Food Service Administration; later using her background and education to operate a catering service for many years out of her home.
Jean married Norbert H. Gralewski on Aug. 11, 1951 in Warrensburg and the couple spent 35 blissful years together before his passing on November 15, 1988.
She was a loving and caring mother, who was very active with her daughters in Girl Scouts, church, and school activities. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, knitting, quilting, and spending time with her family.
She was a member of the Warrensburgh Historical Society, Warrensburgh Beautification Committee, and became an honorary member of the Over the Edge Quilting group. She also enjoyed her membership with the 50 Plus Club.
Jean was a communicant of St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church in Warrensburg and was very active within the church all her life.
Besides her parents and beloved husband, Norbert, she was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Anselmo, Jr. and her aunt, Olive Lynch.
Survivors include her daughters: Sonya Drew of Raleigh, NC; Violet Spatz, and her husband, David of Warrensburg; grandchildren: Tamara Martoni and her husband, Rob of Cary, NC and Cassandra Drew of Denver, CO; Elyse Spatz-Farnsworth and her life partner, Sara of Potsdam; and a beloved sister, Ruth Fruda of Warrensburg. She also leaves behind, a brother-in-law, Raymond Gralewski, and his wife, Ramona of Amsterdam; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Jean’s family from 10-11:30 am Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church, 3802 Main St., Warrensburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Jean’s life will follow the visitation at the church with the Rev. Paul Cox, officiating.
Rite of committal will take place in the Warrensburg Cemetery for Jean and Norbert at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Jean’s memory to St. Cecilia’s RC Church, 3802 Main St., or to the Warrensburg Vol. Fire Co., PO Box 371, Warrensburg, NY 12885.
