Obituary of Elizabeth S. Hayes

Warrensburg:
Elizabeth Shirley McGann Hayes, 84, of Thomson Street, passed away peacefully, Sunday, October 7, 2012 at the Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born February 16, 1928 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late William and Mabel McGann.
Shirley or “Granny” as she liked to be called was raised in Bolton Landing until she met and married the love of her life, Vernon C. “Barney” Hayes. Together the couple relocated to Brant Lake and spent many wonderful years together raising their family.
Shortly after Barney’s passing in 1977, Shirley moved to Warrensburg to live with her daughter, Anna.
Besides spending time with her family, she enjoyed birdwatching.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 30 years, Vernon C. “Barney” Hayes; two brothers, Eugene and Kenneth McGann; two sisters, Thelma McGann Blackmere and Doris McGann Jarvis; her son, Vernon (Peanut) Hayes and daughter, Barbara Hayes Lefebvre.
She is survived by her seven children: Robert Hayes of Warrensburg; Betty Dimick and Joseph Hayes, both of Hudson Falls; Rose Hayes of Queensbury; Janet Bruce of Pottersville; Anna Hayes Barboza and her husband, Dale of Warrensburg; and Kenneth Hayes of Warrensburg; 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Shirley’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to C.R. Wood Cancer Center and Christy, Margaret and Christopher on Tower 2 of the Glens Falls Hospital for all their care and compassion they provided.
Friends may call on Shirley’s family from 5 to 8 pm, Thursday, October 11, 2012 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
A Funeral service to celebrate her life will be conducted 11 am, Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Underwood Cemetery, Horicon.
Pallbearers will be Dale Barboza, Anthony Russell, John Lefebvre, Vernon Lefebvre, Aaron Brown, Kacey Seekford, Zack Seekford and Nicholas Monroe.
