Obituary of Howard W. Waldron

North Creek: Howard W. “Howdy” Waldron, 92, of Milton Ave., passed away peacefully, Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the Adirondack Tri-Country Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in North Creek. Born March 23, 1920 in North Creek, he was the son of the late Elmer and Edith (Hitchcock) Waldron. Howard was a lifelong resident of the area. He married Barbara C. Cornwall on January 17, 1940 at the North Creek Baptist Parsonage. He served his country in United States Navy, aboard the USS Mendocino during WWII and saw action at the battle of Okinawa before his honorable discharge in 1945. Howdy was a 39 year employee with Barton Mines in North River before retiring in 1983 as a Plant Manager. He served on the Johnsburg Central School Board for 17 years, as well as the Warren Co. BOCES Board. He was a member of the North Creek American Legion Post 629, an active member of the Warrensburgh Lodge #425 Free & Accepted Masons, Warrensburg Royal Arch Masons #325, Oriental Shriners, and the Glens Falls Shrine Club. He was also a retired member of the North Creek Volunteer Fire Company. While raising his family, Howdy was active in Scouting and Little League. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Barbara, who passed on September 17, 1997; his brother, Harry Waldron has also died before him. He is survived by his four children, Susan Getman and husband, Patrick of Denver, CO; Rebecca Landon and husband, John of Stevensville, MD; Barbara Swain of St. Louis Park, MN, Howard T. Waldron of Gaithersburg, MD. Howard also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren. Friends may call on Howdy’s family from 4-7 pm Wednesday evening, April 18th at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A memorial service to celebrate Howdy’s life will follow the visitation at 7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home beginning with a Masonic Service and concluding with Rev. Wallace Cromwell of the North Creek Baptist Church officiating. Members of the North Creek Vol. Fire Dept. and the American Legion will gather to pay their respects during the visitation. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Howard’s memory North Creek Vol. Fire Co., Warrensburgh Lodge 425 F&AM or the North Creek Baptist Church.
